Alright, here’s a pretty cool story. You know how all TV broadcasting is switching over to digital in ‘09? Well, all those radio frequencies the old TVs used aren’t going to be utilized by anyone, so what do you do with them?

Well, Google here is trying to get the FCC to keep these airwaves, or “white spaces” as Google affectionately calls them, free for unlicensed use. This way, they could bring internet to places where before people couldn’t access it, similar to WiFi hotspots located in airports and Starbucks. This means that you could enjoy this blog while visiting your family in the mountains or other rural areas across the U.S.

Google and many other sponsors for this movement are trying to keep these unused radio airwaves available for “general usage,” meaning that not just one company with all the power. This sounds pretty fair, right?
