Is that Superman? No, why, it’s my jet airplane that launches from a submarine. What?!
Damn straight! This is probably the coolest thing I’ve seen since the Tesla Roadster.
I dig the techno rave music.
Lockheed Martin has developed an autonomous (fancytalk for “unmanned”) aircraft called the Cormorant. It launches from nuclear submarines, unfolding its wings as it floats to the surface. Then its booster rockets ignite, propelling it skyward, ready to act as a stealthy spy plane or as an attack unit, delivering a tactical payload on enemy targets. This keeps our soldiers at a safe distance from enemy forces. When it’s done with it’s mission, the Cormorant simply lands in the sea and is recovered by the submarine.
I’m glad companies like Lockheed are developing these unmanned vehicles because it’s keeping more of our men away from battle, but on the other hand, I’m not endorsing the Cormorant’s resources being kept in military hands. In fact, I want this thing to be released for public use, because this thing would be one hell of an RC airplane! (Submarines not included)
